First Post

Introduction

Margaret and I decided we wanted to write about being parents and raising Josh so that we can look back and try to remember what happened.  We also wanted to have a place for everyone to go to get updates about Josh so I don't keep spamming your inboxes. We will try and fill in some posts about Josh's first 3 weeks, but we figured we would get started with this week.

We will also post pictures here and I will provide links to many of other pictures we have taken.

Josh Update

At Josh's two week doctors appointment we found out he had lost 1 ounce from the week before.  As a result we met with a lactation consultant to help Margaret and Josh during feedings. The lactation consultant was really helpful, and put us on a strict feeding, pumping and supplementing with pumped milk schedule.

We had a followup appointment last Friday (1/25/2013) and our efforts were rewarded with Josh gaining 8 ounces in 4 days (!!).  Gaining 1 to 1.5 ounces a day is considered good so we did very well.  The pediatrician recommended we reduce our supplements and we came back to the doctors on Tuesday (1/29/2013).  Unfortunately he only gained 1 ounce since last Friday (4 days).  On the plus side he did gain 8 ounces in 7 days so that is a decent average but we are not being very consistent.  The doctor was not too concerned since we have shown that we can get him enough to eat and he can gain weight.

We've gone back to supplementing with most meals and we are increasing his night feedings.  Otherwise Josh is healthy and doing well.  Our next appointment is not until his one month checkup on February 12.  We had hoped to be able to stretch out the feedings but for now we are sticking with every two hours during the day to make sure he gets enough to eat.

Vince's Birthday

We had Vince, Ruth, Ellie and Mark over yesterday (1/30/2013) to celebrate Vince's birthday.  Josh was well behaved and enjoyed being the center of attention.
