Lancaster

A few weekends ago we went to Lancaster, PA with my family. We stayed in a big house with my parents and sister's family. We had originally planned to stay at the Red Caboose Motel, a staple of our youth, however the logistics of staying there with babies that nap was too difficult. We found a big house for all of us that had a pool!

On Saturday we went to the Choo Choo Barn in the morning. My friend Heather had recommended it, and it was very cool. It is a huge model train exhibit--so it was really cool for all ages. The family that made the exhibit did very intricate things to animate the display, in addition to having a lot of trains running around on multiple tracks. Josh loved it, and the rest of us had a pretty good time too :-)  Then we headed off to lunch at the dining car at the Red Caboose Motel. Sadly, the food was about the same quality of an actual dining car, but it was still fun.  There is a fun looking train museum and full size trains to climb on that we did not go to, but maybe next year!

In the afternoon we took advantage of the pool at the house! We managed to get both boys to nap so that we could enjoy the pool first. Then when they woke up we had all 9 of us (3 kids) in the pool. Josh was a little scared to get in the water at first, and would only sit on the rafts or the top step. I finally showed him how fun jumping in the water could be and he got SO into swimming. There was a "hot tub" attached to the pool that we heated to 90, and he loved jumping in and paddling a little bit across the hot tub. We were so proud of how brave he was and it was so much fun to watch him :-)

On Sunday we went to Dutch Wonderland, which is an amusement park owned by Hershey geared towards younger kids. It was really fun. It was actually really nice to be at a smaller park because it was much less crowded. Josh LOVED going on the rides, and we even got to ride the log flume together (well minus Sam)!

It has been a little hard to find local places to travel that have something for everyone in my family, but Lancaster was great.
